Lawns are the necessary part of various types of
landscaping. They can be different in nature and
purpose: sporting, decorative and for special
purposes.
Sports lawns,
or play lawns are used at stadiums, golf,
horse-racing tracks. Such lawns have high resistance
to trampling and rapid recovery, as they consist of
a fast growing cereal grass with broad and elastic
shoots and also grasses, forming dense sod. Usually
are used red fescue and meadow bluegrass.
Lawns of special purpose
can be found on slopes of roads, railways, dams,
airfields.
Decorative lawns
are mostly in the gardens and parks, can be divided
into several classes, depending on the destination
and the growing herbs.
Parterre lawns
considered to be the most complex and require
special preparations. This is the highest quality
lawns. They are responsible for the spaces around
fountains, sculpture compositions etc. The mixture
for such lawns typically consists of undersized
grass with thin and soft shoots and leaves. It’s
capable of evenly forming a dense sward from early
spring to late fall. Usually are used the grasses:
meadow grass, red fescue, bent.
They are well cluster and form a
thick, velvety grass cover. Before seeding the
parterre lawn meticulous planning of the soil and an
increase in land vegetation layer thickness to 30-40
centimeters is needed. It’s necessary to root all
the weeds and level the surface of the ground. You
must adhere to the rule – the area of main
background should prevail over flower gardens’ area
and other parts of the composition. Otherwise, it
looks like razzle-dazzle, fragmentation and loss of
integrity perception. You should walk on parterre
lawns only when it’s necessary, during trimming for
instance, as it’s unable to stand trampling.
Some other requirements must be
for landscape gardening lawns. Herbs for such
lawns should be chosen on the basis of their ability
to withstand adverse conditions, mechanical injury,
fractures, trampling. They should form a solid sod,
so pick herbs with different types of bushing out.
Typically, the same types of grasses that in
parterre lawns are used. Depending on soil
conditions, other herbs such as: forest species,
sheep's fescue and others can be used.
Meadow lawns usually cover vast areas in the parks, urban parks. Often these lawns formed on the basis of already available meadow grass by its reconstruction.
